Cryan Joins AFBF as New Chief Economist

Dr. Roger Cryan will join AFBF on October 4th as its new chief economist. He has served as the Director of the Economics Division for the dairy program at USDA's Agricultural Marketing Service for the past nine years.

He has earned several awards, including the prestigious Bruce Gardner Memorial Prize for Applied Policy Analysis, presented by the Agricultural & Applied Economics Association (AAEA), for his work developing the dairy payment provisions in the Coronavirus Food Assistance Program (CFAP) in 2020. Dr. Cryan also received the Gears of Government Award in 2019 and the USDA Secretary's Award in 2018.

Cryan previously served as Vice President for Milk Marketing and Economics at the National Milk Producers Federation (NMPF) for 12 years where he developed and successfully led efforts to change federal milk pricing and marketing regulations, and served as an appointed member of the USDA Advisory Committee on Agricultural Statistics. Earlier in his career, Dr. Cryan served as an economist for the Federal Milk Market Administrator in Atlanta, GA.

Dr. Cryan earned his bachelor's degree in International Studies at Johns Hopkins University and his master's degree and Ph.D. in Food and Resource Economics at the University of Florida. He is from rural New York.
