S.D. Sorghum Harvest Ahead of 2017 Rate

For the week ending Sunday, there were 0.8 days suitable for fieldwork, according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service. Topsoil moisture supplies rated 3 percent very short, 9 short, 76 adequate, and 12 surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies rated 9 percent very short, 23 short, 61 adequate, and 7 surplus.

Corn condition rated 5 percent very poor, 11 poor, 20 fair, 49 good, and 15 excellent. Corn mature was 93 percent, ahead of 86 last year, and near 90 for the five-year average. Harvested was 17 percent, ahead of 11 last year, but near 21 average.

Soybean condition rated 6 percent very poor, 8 poor, 24 fair, 49 good, and 13 excellent. Soybeans harvested was 29 percent, behind 44 last year, and well behind 65 average.

Sorghum condition rated 1 percent very poor, 6 poor, 19 fair, 73 good, and 1 excellent. Sorghum coloring was 93 percent, near 97 last year, and behind 98 average. Mature was 64 percent, near 66 last year, and behind 81 average. Harvested was 21 percent, ahead of 6 last year, but behind 30 average.

Sunflowers harvested was 5 percent, behind 14 last year and 17 average.

Winter wheat planted was 82 percent, behind 87 last year and 90 average. Emerged was 61 percent, near 65 last year and 57 average.

Pasture and range conditions rated 8 percent very poor, 14 poor, 30 fair, 44 good, and 4 excellent.
