S.D. Weather Excellent as Harvest Wraps Up

For the week ending Sunday, minimal precipitation and above average temperatures dominated most of the State, according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service. Weather conditions were excellent for most producers wrapping up harvest, completing fall tillage, and applying fertilizer. Livestock producers continued to wean calves and move livestock to corn stalks. There were 6.5 days suitable for fieldwork. Topsoil moisture supplies rated 15 percent very short, 26 short, 57 adequate, and 2 surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies rated 23 percent very short, 28 short, 48 adequate, and 1 surplus.

Corn harvested was 92 percent, near 96 for both last year and the five-year average.

Winter wheat condition rated 25 percent very poor, 18 poor, 38 fair, 18 good, and 1 excellent.

Sorghum harvested was 90 percent, behind 99 last year and 96 average.

Sunflowers harvested was 89 percent, behind 96 last year, and near 88 average.

Pasture and range conditions rated 25 percent very poor, 27 poor, 27 fair, 20 good, and 1 excellent.

Stock water supplies rated 20 percent very short, 28 short, 51 adequate, and 1 surplus.
