Dakota State to Offer New Cyber-Related Certificate Programs
South Dakota Ag Connection - 12/08/2017

Building on its reputation as an institution of learning that integrates technology and innovation, Dakota State University will soon offer new undergraduate certificates in cybersecurity, network services, and software development.

The South Dakota Board of Regents this week approved the certificates, which usually require fewer credit hours to complete than a minor. They are developed by packaging a small set of courses that allows students to develop expertise within a focused area of study, addressing identified market and workforce development needs.

The DSU certificates will prepare students with entry-level skills and experience that may lead to careers as computer scientists, software engineers, programmers, security specialists, and other computing professionals. Each of the certificates also will stack seamlessly toward completion of associate and bachelor's degree programs in these fields.

DSU officials said the new offerings will target students who may not be ready to commit to a full bachelor's degree program, as well as non-traditional students looking for new workforce skills that are increasingly in high demand.

Each of the new certificates consist of 12 credit hours of study and will be available starting next fall. The certificate programs will be delivered on campus at Madison, as well as online and through University Center-Sioux Falls.
