S.D. One Health: Preserving Usefulness of Antibiotics

The South Dakota One Health: Preserving the Usefulness of Antibiotics will be held March 1 at 9 a.m. MDT at the Regional Hospital Auditorium (353 Fairmont Blvd., Rapid City).

The next South Dakota One Health seminar will explore the uses of antibiotics in human and animal health and how professionals in both worlds are taking steps to preserve their usefulness.

Speakers and topics include:

- The threat of antibiotic resistance - James Keegan, MD, Regional Hospital

- Antibiotic resistant infections in South Dakota - Merillee Orbitsch, Regional Hospital Antibiotic Stewardship Clinical Pharmacist and Josh Clayton, PhD, SD State Epidemiologist

- Regulations governing antibiotic use in animals - Antibiotic use and stewardship in food animal practice - On farm methods that reduce antibiotic use - Dustin Oedekoven, DVM, State Veterinarian
