Beacom School Hosts POET CEO in Lecture Series

The University of South Dakota Beacom School of Business hosted Jeff Broin, chairman and CEO of POET, as part of its Distinguished Speaker Series.

"We are very grateful to have Jeff Broin speak with us about his leadership experience. His passion for his work is palpable and clearly has driven his personal and professional successes," said Venky Venkatachalam, dean of the Beacom School of Business. "The Beacom Distinguished Speaker Series is aimed to create long-lasting relationships that benefit local businesses and our students, alumni, faculty and staff.

Broin is the current chairman and CEO of POET. Speaking to a crowd of more than 100 people at The Country Club of Sioux Falls, Broin spoke about his career path, the many benefits of and the future for biofuels. Broin answered audience questions about marketing initiatives, policy decisions impacting biofuels, and environmental benefits to their use.

POET, the world's largest biofuels producer, is a leader in biorefining through its efficient, vertically integrated approach to production. The 30-year-old company has a network of 27 production facilities. POET, through its joint venture with DSM, also operates a commercial-scale cellulosic biofuel plant in Emmetsburg, Iowa.

Broin is a 1987 graduate of the University of Wisconsin-River Falls with a degree in Agricultural Business. He was also recently presented an Honorary Doctorate of Public Service from South Dakota State University. In addition to his current role at POET, Broin and his family founded Seeds of Change, a non-profit organization with the goal of transforming education, agriculture and environmental conditions worldwide.
