Cosmetology Inspection Scam Underway in South Dakota
South Dakota Ag Connection - 03/22/2018

The South Dakota Cosmetology Commission warns of a salon inspection scam underway in the state. Salons have received phone calls requesting credit card information to continue with the yearly inspection process.

There is no fee for the annual salon or booth inspection, and inspectors are not allowed to accept any fees owed to the Commission.

"Our office staff do not call licensees to request your credit card to pay for an inspection or any other fees," said Executive Director Kate Boyd. "If you receive a phone call requesting credit card information to continue with your yearly inspection, please hang up."

Persons who have given out credit card information should contact their bank or credit card company immediately and report the incident to the South Dakota Attorney General's Office of Consumer Protection at 800-300-1986 or consumerhelp@state.sd.us.

The mission of the Cosmetology Commission is to ensure the health and safety of citizens using cosmetology, esthetics and nail technology services.
