MACA Announces Young Leader Scholarship Recipients

The Mid America CropLife Association (MACA) Board of Directors selected thirteen college students to receive the MACA Young Leader Scholarship to be used for their college expenses.

This is the sixth year for the program, which is designed to expose future agriculturalists to the crop protection industry and future career opportunities. Recipients will benefit from the financial compensation, exposure and networking with MACA members. MACA members benefit by developing a talent pool of future industry leaders and through the heightened awareness of MACA within the participating universities.

The candidates' educational focus is agriculture and all are enrolled at one of the Land-Grant Universities in the MACA region. They have secured a summer internship (2018) within agriculture, preferably within the crop protection industry. Additionally, the selected recipient will attend the MACA Annual Meeting Sept. 4-6 in Des Moines, Iowa to speak about their internship experience and participate in the meeting with MACA members.

Colorado: Crystal Sparks, BS Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Colorado State University, Graduates December 2018.

Illinois: Stephen Riskedal, BS Science in Technical Systems Management, University of Illinois, Graduates May 2019.

Indiana: Lauren Tolle, BS Agronomy, Purdue University, Graduates May 2019.

Iowa: Keely Acheson, BS Agricultural Business and Finance, Iowa State University, Graduates May 2019.

Kansas: Keren Duerksen, BS Agronomy, Kansas State University, Graduates May 2018.

Michigan: Paige Reetz, Agri-Business Management, Michigan State University, Graduates May 2019.

Minnesota: Abigail Diering, BS Plant Science, University of Minnesota, Graduates December 2019.

Missouri: Allison Stiens, BS Agribusiness Management, University of Missouri --Columbia, Graduates December 2018.

Nebraska: Rodger Farr, BS Agronomy, University of Nebraska -- Lincoln, Graduates May 2019.

North Dakota: Brady Schmoll, BS Agricultural Systems Management, North Dakota State University, Graduates December 2018.

Ohio: Monica Pennewitt, BS Agriculture, Plant Pathology, The Ohio State University, Graduates December 2018.

South Dakota: Jonathan Linke, BS Agronomy and Animal Science Business and Production, South Dakota State University, Graduates May 2020.

Wisconsin: Lauren Jorgensen, BS Agronomy and Community and Environmental Sociology, University of Wisconsin -- Madison, Graduates May 2019.

After completing their summer internships, the scholarship recipients will receive a $2,000 scholarship to assist with their tuition expenses.
