Thune, Johnson Applaud Trump's Granting S.D. Disaster Assistance
South Dakota Ag Connection - 06/10/2019

U.S. Sen. John Thune (R-S.D.) and U.S. Rep. Dusty Johnson (R-S.D.) applauded the Trump administration for approving South Dakota's request for a major disaster declaration and subsequent federal assistance after late-winter storms caused significant damage to infrastructure, livestock, homes, and bridges throughout the state.

"I'm grateful for the administration's action to help ensure that hard-hit South Dakota communities will be able to get back to normal as fast as possible following these devastating storms," said Thune. "I want to thank Gov. Noem for her leadership and Sen. Rounds and Rep. Johnson for their support in urging the administration to act quickly and give our state the assistance it needs."

"South Dakotans need relief," said Johnson. "This declaration will allow our state to access recently passed disaster assistance to move forward from the unprecedented and ongoing flooding, and I'm grateful the Trump administration recognized this expediently. When times got tough, South Dakota's leadership, first responders, and local and state officials stepped up to the plate and for that I'm extremely grateful."

Following Gov. Noem's May 22 request, the delegation promptly sent a letter to President Trump urging him to approve it as soon as possible.
