S.D. Wheat Condition Lags Last Year

For the week ending Sunday, there were 5.8 days suitable for fieldwork, according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service. Topsoil moisture supplies rated 4 percent very short, 29 short, 64 adequate, and 3 surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies rated 8 percent very short, 27 short, 64 adequate, and 1 surplus.

Corn condition rated 0 percent very poor, 2 poor, 35 fair, 54 good, and 9 excellent. Corn emerged was 95 percent, near 97 last year and 93 for the five-year average.

Soybean condition rated 0 percent very poor, 3 poor, 37 fair, 53 good, and 7 excellent. Soybeans planted was 96 percent, near 98 last year, but ahead of 91 average. Emerged was 79 percent, behind 85 last year, but ahead of 73 average.

Winter wheat condition rated 1 percent very poor, 12 poor, 41 fair, 45 good, and 1 excellent. Winter wheat headed was 73 percent, behind 92 last year, but ahead of 59 average.

Spring wheat condition rated 2 percent very poor, 7 poor, 48 fair, 37 good, and 6 excellent. Spring wheat headed was 16 percent, behind 33 last year, and near 17 average.

Oats condition rated 0 percent very poor, 4 poor, 33 fair, 55 good, and 8 excellent. Oats headed was 25 percent, behind 38 last year, and near 28 average.

Sorghum condition rated 0 percent very poor, 0 poor, 12 fair, 88 good, and 0 excellent. Sorghum planted was 85 percent, near 82 last year, and ahead of 73 average.

Sunflowers planted was 64 percent, behind 69 last year, but ahead of 49 average.

Pasture and range conditions rated 2 percent very poor, 12 poor, 42 fair, 41 good, and 3 excellent.
