Governor Applauds USDA's Move on Prevent Plant Date
South Dakota Ag Connection - 06/21/2019

Governor Kristi Noem Thursday applauded the announcement by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) adjusting the 2019 final grazing and haying date from November 1 to September 1, aiding South Dakota farmers who were unable to plant due to flooding this year.

"I'm grateful USDA is providing this much-needed relief for South Dakota growers who have been impacted by flooding this spring," said Noem. "We can't control the weather, but we can control our policy. This is a good, commonsense move from the federal government, and I applaud the Administration for easing the burden of producers during this difficult year."

Producers who hay, graze, or chop cover crops on prevent plant acres after Sept. 1 will still maintain eligibility for full 2019 prevented planting indemnity.
