Bring Ideas to Brookings Area Idea Competition

The 13th annual Brookings Area Idea Competition is now open and taking entries from residents, including South Dakota State University and high school students, providing the chance to win a total of $2,500 in cash prizes.

The 2020 contest, hosted by Brookings Economic Development Corporation, encourages entrepreneurs, innovators, creative thinkers and basically anyone with a good idea to participate by submitting a one-page description simply explaining what your idea is, who would benefit and where are you at in the process of developing your idea into a potential product or business. Finalists will be asked to give a five-minute pitch of their idea to a panel of judges.

"The Idea Competition continues to be one of our most popular programs," said Jennifer Quail, BEDC director of entrepreneur support. "In addition to having minimal requirements, this contest provides people with the opportunity to take their product or business ideas to the next level of development."

Ideas can be submitted online at startupbrookings.com/idea. Entries will be placed in either the general business or science/technology categories. A total of $2,500 in prize money will be awarded with receipt of money subject to winners reaching business milestones.

The competition is free, and the deadline for idea submissions is Feb. 18. Finalists will pitch their ideas Feb. 28 and winners will be announced from 4-6 p.m. that day at the Brookings Innovation Center.
