SDSU Extension Weeds Booth at DakotaFest

Gared Shaffer, SDSU Extension weeds field specialist will be at Dakotafest 2018 to answer growers weed and pest questions Aug. 21-23. Just look for him at the Weeds booth inside the SDSU Extension tent (#600) on the Schlaffman Farm (2300 East Spruce Street) in Mitchell.

"We're eager to meet with growers and help them out," Shaffer said.

There will be a spray nozzle demonstration and growers can pick up a 2018 pest guides.

It is never too early to make plans to control next year's weeds.

"Planning involves getting ready for a diversified herbicide program, crop rotation or incorporating cover crops into your rotation," Shaffer said.

If growers have questions, Shaffer will be ready to answer them. "We will have helpful information to help guide you to a successful growing season next year," he said.

If growers have weeds they are unable to identify, Shaffer says to bring a sample or clear photo along to Dakotafest and visit the Weeds booth.

Whether a grower brings a sample or photo, Shaffer reminds them to capture as much of the plant as possible - bringing multiple photos or a complete plant sample.
