Her Vote. Her Voice. Sponsoring Know Her Story: Art and Essay Contest
South Dakota Ag Connection - 03/05/2021

In honor of Women's History Month in March, the Her Vote. Her Voice. (HVHV) campaign is encouraging South Dakota students to write an original essay or create an original piece of art about a South Dakota woman who has made an impact.

Students in grades 4-12 are eligible to enter "Know Her Story." Criteria for both categories include creativity and use of theme. Submissions are due March 26. Prizes will be awarded to the winner and runners up in each age category.

Tracy Saathoff, vice-chair of the HVHV delegation, noted the essays and artwork should address who the woman is or was, what she does or did, what impact this had on those around her, and why we should know her story.

"We are focusing on knowing who these women are and preserving their stories in a creative way for future generations," noted Saathoff. "It's important we not only advocate for women's history, but that we be the ones who help document it. The work of students statewide will help give a voice to the women who have made the state what it is today, and their work will bring light to the accomplishments of generations of women changemakers."

Winners will be announced in early April. For more information regarding contest rules and submission instructions visit www.hervotehervoice.org/art-contest.
