30 Percent of South Dakota Spring Wheat in the Ground

For the week ending Sunday, there were 3.5 days suitable for fieldwork, according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service. Topsoil moisture supplies rated 19% very short, 41% short, 39% adequate, and 1% surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies rated 23% very short, 50% short, 27% adequate, and 0% surplus.

Winter wheat condition rated 2% very poor, 12% poor, 48% fair, 38% good, and 0% excellent.

Spring wheat planted was 30%, well ahead of 5% last year, and ahead of 14% for the five-year average. Emerged was 4%, near 1% average.

Oats planted was 20%, ahead of 4% last year and 13% average. Emerged was 2%, equal to average.
