Majority of S.D. Corn and Soybeans Good to Excellent

For the week ending Sunday, there were 6.1 days suitable for fieldwork, according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service. Topsoil moisture supplies rated 7% very short, 21% short, 61% adequate, and 11% surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies rated 7% very short, 23% short, 62% adequate, and 8% surplus.

Corn condition rated 0% very poor, 2% poor, 19% fair, 68% good, and 11% excellent. Corn emerged was 96%, near 97% last year and 92% for the five-year average.

Soybean condition rated 1% very poor, 2% poor, 25% fair, 68% good, and 4% excellent. Soybeans planted was 98%, near 100% last year and 95% average. Emerged was 82%, behind 97% last year, and near 85% average.

Winter wheat condition rated 2% very poor, 22% poor, 41% fair, 24% good, and 11% excellent. Winter wheat headed was 76%, behind 93% last year and 87% average.

Spring wheat condition rated 1% very poor, 9% poor, 24% fair, 58% good, and 8% excellent. Spring wheat headed was 15%, well behind 61% last year and 46% average.

Oats condition rated 1% very poor, 8% poor, 31% fair, 53% good, and 7% excellent. Oats emerged was 95%, behind 100% last year, and near 98% average. Headed was 35%, well behind 71% last year, and behind 52% average.

Sorghum condition rated 4% very poor, 10% poor, 34% fair, 52% good, and 0% excellent. Sorghum planted was 86%, behind 96% last year and 91% average. Headed was 1%, near 4% last year, and equal to average.

Sunflowers planted was 83%, behind 90% last year, and equal to average.

Pasture and range conditions rated 4% very poor, 26% poor, 35% fair, 30% good, and 5% excellent.
