Capitol Portrait of Daugaard to be Unveiled

Gov. Dennis Daugaard's official portrait will be unveiled for the public on Dec. 4. The brief ceremony will begin at 2:30 p.m. CST, following the Governor's budget address.
The unveiling will be held of the first floor of the South Dakota State Capitol, in the east wing. Daugaard's portrait will hang there, alongside the thirty-one portraits of his predecessors.
The portrait was painted by artist Susan Booke Durkee, who has a studio in Redding, Conn. Durkee was selected after a national selection process. he traveled to Pierre this spring to meet Daugaard and begin work on the portrait, which was completed at her
"It was an honor and a pleasure to paint the official portrait of Gov. Dennis Daugaard," said Durkee. "My father was stationed at the air force base in Rapid City during World War II, and I enjoyed being able to visit a place that was near to his heart and very
special to me."
The portrait of Daugaard was funded entirely by donations from current and former Governor's cabinet and staff.
