South Dakota 4-H was represented by 35 youth from 19 counties as members of 9 teams at the 2022 4-H Shooting Sports National Championships held in Grand Island, Neb.
Youth qualify for the national teams during the spring and fall shoots and the 4-H summer outdoor archery tournament. These youth participate in county programs led by volunteers who receive training from Level 2 instructors.
Individual Awards
South Dakota youth who placed as individuals:
Bradley Dangel -- 8th place in air pistol silhouettes
Mya Dissing -- 3rd place in 3-P, 5th place in standing and 10th place overall individual
Skyler Ruth -- 5th place in 3-P
Jenna Kruger -- 7th place in 3-P and 9th place in standing
Hunter Laverack -- 4th place in FITA round and 8th place in field archery
Collin Fuller -- 9th place in wildlife ID and management, 6th place in map and hunting skills, 8th place in decision making and compass and 7th place overall individual
Zechariah Kari -- 3rd place in silhouettes and 10th place overall individual
Payton Jackson -- 6th place in FITA round
Carter Effling -- 4th place in trap
Jasmine Hays -- 8th place in small bore rifle silhouettes, 8th place in CMP and 8th place overall individual
Elizabeth Shultz -- 10th place in small bore rifle CMP

The South Dakota 4-H shooting sports program focuses on teaching youth ages 8-18 safety in the various disciplines that they compete in. The South Dakota program offers archery (recurve and compound), pistol (air and 22), rifle (BB, air and 22), muzzleloading, shotgun and hunting skills.
