The South Dakota Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources (DANR) and the South Dakota Farm Bureau (SDFB) are once again celebrating family farming legacies through the Century Farm and Ranch Recognition Program.
This program honors South Dakota families who have maintained continuous ownership of farmland or ranchland for 100 years or more. To qualify, applicants must own at least 80 acres of the original land and show documentation proving the date of purchase.
Families with ownership dating back 125 years can apply for Quasquicentennial recognition, while those reaching 150 years may be honored as Sesquicentennial farms or ranches. These historic milestones reflect the strength and dedication of South Dakota’s agricultural community.
Application forms are now available online at sdfbf.org or by calling 605-353-8050. All completed applications must be submitted by Friday, August 1, 2025.
The official recognition ceremony will take place at the 2025 South Dakota State Fair. It is scheduled for Thursday, August 28 at 10 a.m. on the South Dakota Farm Bureau Dakotaland Stage in Huron.
The 2025 State Fair will begin on Wednesday, August 27, and continue through Monday, September 1. For more details on fair events, visit sdstatefair.com, or follow them on Facebook, Instagram, and X.
