At their recent 106th convention, the South Dakota Farm Bureau (SDFB) recognized four outstanding agri-businesses with the prestigious "Friend of Agriculture" award. This award signifies the importance of collaboration between farmers and businesses supporting agriculture in the state.
"Local businesses that understand and address the needs of our farmers and ranchers are vital partners," said Krystil Smit, SDFB Executive Director. "We are proud to honor these businesses for their dedication to sustaining and promoting agriculture in their communities."
The recipients of the 2023 "Friend of Agriculture" award include:
- Buffalo Christian Homeschool Academy (Humboldt): This non-profit, non-denominational private school integrates agriculture into its curriculum, offering students unique opportunities to experience firsthand the life of an agriculturalist.
- Olson Sod Farms (Meckling): Recognized for their commitment to supplying high-quality sod to golf courses and athletic fields, Olson Sod Farms consistently demonstrates their dedication to enhancing rural South Dakota.
- Royalwood Dairy (Brandon): A 480-cow dairy operation with 1,150 acres of corn and alfalfa, Royalwood Dairy actively engages with the community by hosting an annual on-the-farm breakfast event each June.
- Summit Contracting (Platte): This industry leader in farm and commercial building construction has earned recognition for its investment in local communities and its dedication to providing essential services for South Dakota farmers and ranchers.
By recognizing these exceptional businesses, the SDFB underscores the crucial role agri-businesses play in the success of South Dakota agriculture. Their contributions ensure the continued growth and sustainability of the state's agricultural industry.
