South Dakota Healthy Nutrition Collaborative Meeting Highlights Food and Health

South Dakota Healthy Nutrition Collaborative Meeting Highlights Food and Health

By Scout Nelson

The South Dakota Healthy Nutrition Collaborative continues its mission of supporting access to nutritious food for families and communities across the state. The Collaborative brings together different voices to build a strong foundation for healthy living and community growth.

At this year’s annual meeting, the group plans to share updates on its goals, highlight insights from federal policy discussions, and host engaging panel talks on the link between food access, community health, and state policy efforts.

One of the highlights of the event is a special address from Melissa Magstadt, the South Dakota Secretary of Health. She will speak about state health priorities and the role of nutrition in community well-being.

The American Heart Association Federal Team will also join the meeting to offer their insights on how federal policies affect food access and nutrition programs. Their update will help participants understand the larger policy environment that shapes local and state actions.

Two dynamic panel discussions are also on the agenda. The first, called “From Vision to Impact,” will explain how state food and nutrition councils help make real, positive changes in communities. The second panel, “Strengthening Health Through Food,” will discuss how food access improves health outcomes, especially from a healthcare point of view.
