South Dakota State Fair Invites Student Entries

By Scout Nelson

The South Dakota State Fair and the South Dakota Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources invite educators to showcase student talent at the 2026 fair. Teachers from across the state can submit classroom projects to be displayed in the Arts and Education Building.

The Education Division gives students a chance to share their creativity and hard work with the public. Projects may include art, writing, computer graphics, and other academic subjects. Both creative and classroom-based work are welcome. Public schools, private schools, and alternative instruction programs are all eligible to participate.

“The Education Division really shines a spotlight on the creativity and effort students put into their projects,” said State Fair Manager Peggy Besch. “It’s exciting for parents, families, and students to see their work proudly displayed at the fair.”

In 2025, more than 8,200 student projects were entered in the fair. This strong participation shows the importance of education and student achievement in South Dakota. Organizers expect another great response in 2026.

Entry forms are due to the State Fair office by April 15, 2026. Schools that need help with submissions can contact the fair office by phone at 800-529-0900, visit www.sdstatefair.com or check it out on Facebook, Instagram, and X. The Education Department handbook and full instructions are available online at https://www.sdstatefair.com/participate/competitive-exhibits/education/, and online entry is now open for convenience.

The 2026 South Dakota State Fair will begin on Channel Seeds Opening Day, Wednesday, September 2, and continues through Monday, September 7. The fair offers families a chance to celebrate agriculture, education, and community spirit.

Educators are encouraged to take part and give students the opportunity to see their work proudly displayed at this statewide event.
