Transforming Dreams into a Farmstead Reality

Transforming Dreams into a Farmstead Reality

By Scout Nelson

In a weathered barn near Chatfield, a woman works alongside her husband, milking over 30 dairy cows. Not long ago, this suburban individual knew little about farming, but a chance meeting at the St. Paul Farmers' Market changed her life forever.

In fall 2022, she was selling homemade bread when she met a dairy farmer, sparking a friendship that quickly grew into love. Their journey culminated in a wedding at a local church near the family farm where her husband grew up.

She transitioned from suburban life to a farm lifestyle, where the scent of the barn lingers on clothes, and workdays revolve around milking and baking. "It's a perfect fit," she reflects on her new life.

The couple now runs a bakery on the farm, baking bread for farmers' markets and special occasions. The farm has become a symbol of their shared faith, love, and dreams, with plans to eventually purchase the family farm.

"I think that I'm following the will of God," she says. "Baking and being on the farm are life-giving for me."

Their priests, who have been a significant part of their spiritual journey, celebrate their union and the life they are building together, viewing it as a sign of hope and faith.

With plans to keep working on the farm and sharing their faith, their story of love and farming continues to inspire those around them.
