The South Dakota Arts Council is partnering with the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and an outstanding group of South Dakota artists to produce the live, virtual performance, Love Fight Pray: Rising O-hethi Šakówi Voices on Aug. 10, as part of Arts Across America.

South Dakota Arts Council Executive Director Patrick Baker said, "We're really excited to partner with the Kennedy Center on this effort to showcase some of our accomplished local artists at the national level. The Arts Across America series will deliver music and performing arts to thousands of viewers across the nation. We simply don't have stages of this magnitude in South Dakota, and this is going to be a great show."

Love Fight Pray: Rising O?hethi Šakówi??Voices features Native artists from South Dakota performing spoken word poetry, rap, and rock, including Bazille (Talon Bazille Ducheneaux) from the Crow Creek Dakota and Cheyenne River Lakota tribes; The Wake Singers (Reed Two Bulls, Douglas Two Bulls, Micheal Two Bulls, Samson Ptacek, and Dan Carrol) who are Oglala Lakota artists from Mni Luzahan and the He Sapa area (Rapid City) and the Ogle Luta (Red Shirt Table) community in Pine Ridge Indian Reservation; Rose (Pte San Win Rose Little Whiteman) an Oglala Lakota College art student from Pine Ridge; and artist Senri/Meta (Zoey White) a citizen of the Oglala Sioux Tribe.

The Arts Council also partnered with Rapid City arts and cultural organizations Racing Magpie and The Journey Museum & Learning Center to present this live performance. Racing Magpie is a community arts space that includes a modern Native gallery, affordable artist studios, common arts workspace, and a wide variety of programming with the mission of supporting Native creativity, sustainability, and learning in the art field. The Journey Museum & Learning Center strives to preserve, educate, and explore the heritage, cultures, and environment of the Black Hills region to understand our past, enrich our present and sustain our future.

Previously announced by the Kennedy Center as one of their Social Impact initiatives, Arts Across America is a program created to uplift and showcase culture curators and performing artists across the country in this time of uncertainty.

In collaboration with arts organizations from coast to coast, Arts Across America features free, digital performances in a rotating schedule for 20 weeks, through December 11, 2020. The livestream series will showcase more than 200 diverse, visionary artists who play leadership roles in their communities, exemplify unique regional artistic styles, and are using their medium as a tool for advocacy and social justice. Arts Across America is made possible and live-streamed by Facebook.
