The Ag Economic Dialogues webinar series continues Friday, April 18, offering valuable insights into the economic and production challenges faced in agriculture today. This free, one-hour session starts at 10:00 a.m. CDT and is designed for anyone involved in farming and ranching.
These monthly webinars are created to help producers make informed and profitable choices for their operations. Each session focuses on timely and relevant topics that matter most to those working in agriculture.
The April session will cover various key subjects. One focus will be marketing, including how basis, cash prices, seasonality, and location affect the value received for crops and livestock. Understanding these factors can help producers better plan and sell at the right time.
Economic topics will also be discussed, such as interest rates, depreciation, and global trade trends. These elements directly influence the prices received and should be considered when planning farm finances.
Production decisions, including what types of feed, fertilizer, and pest control methods to use, will be explored. The session will explain how these choices impact total costs and profits. This includes examining storage methods and input rates.
Risk management will also be featured, highlighting how crop and livestock insurance tools can protect income. Learning how to use these tools effectively supports long-term stability in farming operations.
“Producers can engage with our experts from the comfort and convenience of their own chair, tractor or combine,” the organizers noted.
To participate, online registration is required. Once registered, participants will receive a link to join the Zoom meeting. If needed, help is available through Eventbrite or by contacting an SDSU Extension specialist.
This webinar is a great opportunity to stay updated, ask questions, and apply new knowledge for better decision-making on the farm.
