Cattle HQ Live Shares Calving Preparation Tips

Cattle HQ Live Shares Calving Preparation Tips

By Scout Nelson

SDSU Extension offers a free educational webinar series called Cattle HQ Live to support beef producers as they prepare for calving season. The program is designed to help improve herd health, productivity, and long term profitability through timely and practical information.

Cattle HQ Live takes place on the third Thursday of each month at 2:00 p.m. Central Time. The series brings together members of the SDSU Extension beef team to share research based guidance on important topics affecting cow calf operations. Producers can join from anywhere through an online Zoom platform.

One session in the series focuses on preparing for the upcoming calving season. During this session, SDSU Extension Cow Calf Field Specialist Taylor Grussing discusses key areas that help producers get ready for a busy time of year. Topics include animal handling systems, calving supplies, and common health products used during calving.

The session highlights how early planning can reduce stress and improve outcomes during calving. Proper handling facilities help protect both cattle and people. Having the right supplies ready ahead of time supports quick response during difficult births. Planning for health needs also helps protect calves and cows during the early stages of life.

Cattle HQ Live is open to all interested participants at no cost. Registration is required to receive the Zoom link and reminder emails. Participants only need to register once to gain access to all sessions in the series, making it easy to stay informed throughout the year.

For additional details, participants can contact SDSU Extension Beef Specialists Julie Walker or Erin DeHaan. Both specialists help guide the program and ensure content remains useful and easy to understand for producers.

All Cattle HQ Live presentations are recorded and made available online. This allows producers to watch sessions later if they are unable to attend live or want to review the information again.

Overall, Cattle HQ Live provides a valuable learning opportunity for beef producers. The series supports better preparation, stronger management decisions, and improved herd performance by sharing clear and practical education during important production periods.
