'Ecology of Dakota Landscapes' Unveiling at SDSU

W. Carter Johnson, a South Dakota State University professor emeritus, and Dennis H. Knight, professor emeritus at the University of Wyoming, have created "Ecology of Dakota Landscapes." The book, which was published by Yale University Press, will be unveiled at 4 p.m. July 28 at SDSU's Hilton M. Briggs Library.

Johnson and Knight, South Dakota natives, look at the natural and manmade forces behind the shaping of the native ecosystems and croplands of the Northern Great Plains. "Ecology of Dakota Landscapes" also discusses restoring landscapes, sustainable land management and impacts of climate change in both South and North Dakota.

"Ecology of Dakota Landscapes" is written for readers with varying backgrounds and incudes discussions of the Prairie Pothole Region, the Missouri River, grasslands, woodlands, the Black Hills and rivers, lakes and wetlands.

In-person attendees can access free parking in Lot 164, which is north of Briggs Library. One can also join the program online through Zoom.
