A new online platform launched by the South Dakota Soil Health Coalition aims to strengthen the connection between local food producers and consumers. The Fresh Connect website, designed to bridge the gap between farm-fresh products and local demand, offers a space where producers can create free accounts to list their available goods.
Producers can showcase their offerings on an interactive map, making it easier for consumers and restaurants to search by location and product type. Chris Goldade, owner of Flat Rock Farms in Westport, highlights the benefits of the platform
“The detailed farm profile allows us to showcase our unique growing practices and the quality of our offerings. By using Fresh Connect, we can introduce new, exciting products to our residents and support a thriving local food economy.”
The platform also provides educational resources to small-scale and urban farmers, helping them improve soil health, build drought resilience, and increase farm sustainability.
The development of the South Dakota Fresh Connect website was made possible through financial support from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Natural Resources Conservation Service. The platform promotes both sustainable farming practices and a stronger local food economy.
