Based on July 1 conditions, South Dakota's 2022 winter wheat production is forecast at 41.0 million bushels, up 50% from last year's crop, according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service. Average yield is forecast at 54 bushels per acre, up 16 bushels from 2021. Area to be harvested for grain is estimated at 760,000 acres, up 6% from a year ago.
Other spring wheat crop is forecast at 35.8 million bushels, up 109% from last year. Average yield is forecast at 49 bushels per acre, up 20 bushels from 2021. Area to be harvested for grain is estimated at 730,000 acres, up 24% from a year ago.
Oat production is forecast at 8.17 million bushels, up 118% from last year. Average yield is forecast at 86 bushels per acre, up 19 bushels from 2021. Area to be harvested for grain is estimated at 95,000 acres, up 70% from a year ago.
