South Dakota Rallies for Farmers and Conservation Support

South Dakota Rallies for Farmers and Conservation Support

By Scout Nelson

South Dakota communities are coming together on Saturday, June 21, to show strong support for the state’s farmers, ranchers, and conservationists. Events will be held in both Sioux Falls and Rapid City, offering residents a chance to stand in solidarity with those who grow food and care for the land.

These gatherings aim to highlight the challenges facing agriculture today, including trade issues, funding delays, and the lack of an updated farm bill. Farmers and ranchers work every day to feed the population, yet many feel uncertain about the future. Event organizers believe public support is essential to help them continue their work.

The Sioux Falls event will begin at 9:30 a.m. CT at the Falls Park Picnic Shelter, located at 880 N Phillips Ave. The Rapid City event will be held at the Black Hills Farmers Market at 245 E Omaha St. Attendees will hear directly from producers who are actively involved in South Dakota’s agriculture and conservation efforts.

Speakers will share how local and national policies affect their ability to plan and grow. Community members will also learn how they can help, not just through advocacy but also by shopping local and supporting producers at the farmer's market.

After the events, participants are encouraged to browse the market booths and support farm businesses. In Sioux Falls, visitors can also stop by the Stockyards Ag Experience Museum at Falls Park to explore the history and future of farming in the state.

These events remind us that food comes from people who work hard every day and that supporting them makes a real difference in local and global food systems.
