A one-day environmental training session for Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations (CAFO) operators is scheduled for Wednesday, June 25, at the Crossroads Convention Center in Huron, South Dakota. This training is designed to help livestock operators understand and meet environmental standards while improving their farm management practices.
Registration will begin at 8:15 a.m., and the training session will start at 8:45 a.m., continuing until approximately 4:45 p.m. The event is a joint effort by SDSU Extension, the South Dakota Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources, and the Natural Resources Conservation Service.
These agencies will provide expert guidance on a variety of environmental topics related to CAFO management. Topics may include manure handling, water protection, nutrient management, and regulatory compliance. The training aims to equip participants with knowledge and tools to reduce environmental impact while maintaining productive operations.
Farmers and livestock operators attending the training will gain useful insights to help them plan and manage their facilities more responsibly. With stricter rules surrounding large animal operations, staying informed is important for both legal compliance and environmental stewardship.
The registration fee is $50, which includes lunch, refreshments, and training materials. Those interested in attending can register online by visiting extension.sdstate.edu/events. The Crossroads Convention Center is located at 100 Fourth St. S.W. in Huron.
This training session is an excellent opportunity for CAFO operators to stay current on best practices, learn from environmental specialists, and improve their operations in a sustainable way.
