South Dakota's AG Venture - Bridging Food Source Gaps

South Dakota's AG Venture - Bridging Food Source Gaps

The Central States Fair, once just a place of entertainment, is now an education hot spot, thanks to Dani Herring, the Livestock and Ag Education Manager. She's behind the innovative South Dakota AG Venture experience, aiming to teach visitors about their food's origins.

As society drifts from its agricultural roots, there's a need to remind people about the farm-to-table journey. The AG Venture offers captivating activities for all ages. There's a video kiosk with videos ranging from animal care to feed nutrition, focusing on the beef industry.

Want a more immersive experience? Try the virtual reality station. It gives a 360-degree view of cattle pastures and more, letting visitors see where their meals begin. And for some fun, there's an AG trivia game on South Dakota's agriculture and a simulator to try farm machinery.

Prizes from partnering companies and samples like Nerdy Nuts peanut butter add to the excitement. A special touch is the AG Education Center, where visitors can pen letters to ranchers, thanking them for their contributions.

Dani Herring aims to bridge the gap between urban residents and farmers by providing an enlightening journey into the critical steps before food arrives at stores. This aims to emphasize the importance of farming in today's fast-paced world.
