Zoetis Strengthens Global Animal Health Tech

Zoetis Strengthens Global Animal Health Tech

By Jamie Martin

Zoetis Inc., a leading global animal health company, announced a definitive agreement to acquire the animal genomics business of Neogen Corporation for $160 million. The move supports Zoetis’ long-term strategy to strengthen innovation in livestock production through advanced genetic technologies.

The acquisition will allow Zoetis to expand its Precision Animal Health portfolio, which uses genetic data, digital tools, and analytics to improve livestock health and productivity. By combining Neogen’s genomic technologies with Zoetis’ existing expertise, the company plans to offer stronger predictive insights and more personalized animal care solutions.

Neogen’s genomics business provides services to customers in more than 120 countries. It operates five laboratories located in the United States, Brazil, Australia, China, and the United Kingdom, along with a Canadian office. These facilities support global livestock producers by providing advanced genetic testing and data analysis services.

The division offers a comprehensive genotyping platform using fixed array technologies and DNA sequencing. These systems allow producers to evaluate animal genetics with high accuracy and efficiency. In addition, specialized software tools help farmers and breeders analyze genetic information and make informed management decisions.

Neogen’s genomics technologies are widely recognized in the United States beef and dairy industries. The tools allow producers to identify desirable traits such as productivity, disease resistance, and overall animal health. This information supports breeding programs that improve herd performance and long-term sustainability.

Zoetis officials say integrating these capabilities will strengthen the company’s ability to support livestock producers worldwide. "The addition of Neogen's genomics business strengthens our commitment to advancing animal health through innovation, data, and technology," said Jamie Brannan, Chief Commercial Officer at Zoetis.

"As we continue to grow our leading innovative solutions in Precision Animal Health, this acquisition brings complementary capabilities that expand predictive insights and individualized care, enabling us to deliver added value to customers," said Brannan.

“Together, we are shaping the future of animal health, empowering customers with the tools they need to support healthier animals and sustainable livestock production globally," said Brannan.

The transaction is expected to close in the second half of 2026, pending regulatory approval and other customary closing conditions.

Industry observers note that the agreement reflects the growing role of genomics and data-driven technologies in modern livestock production systems.
