Nearly Perfect Week for Fieldwork in South Dakota

For the week ending Sunday, there were 6.9 days suitable for fieldwork, according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service. Topsoil moisture supplies rated 20% very short, 48% short, 32% adequate, and 0% surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies rated 13% very short, 46% short, 41% adequate, and 0% surplus.

Corn condition rated 2% very poor, 4% poor, 16% fair, 67% good, and 11% excellent. Corn mature was 95%, well ahead of 48% last year, and ahead of 81% for the five-year average. Harvested was 39%, well ahead of 4% last year and 15% average.

Soybeans harvested was 82%, well ahead of 11% last year and 42% average.

Winter wheat planted was 88%, near 84% both last year and average. Emerged was 53%, behind 61% last year, and near 54% average.

Sorghum condition rated 0% very poor, 4% poor, 34% fair, 59% good, and 3% excellent. Sorghum mature was 99%, well ahead of 51% last year and 68% average. Harvested was 61%, well ahead of 9% last year and 22% average.

Sunflowers harvested was 19%, ahead of 9% average.

Pasture and range conditions rated 10% very poor, 21% poor, 50% fair, 19% good, and 0% excellent.
