58 Percent of S.D. Pastures Rate Very Poor to Poor



For the week ending Sunday, there were 3.5 days suitable for fieldwork, according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service. Topsoil moisture supplies rated 11% very short, 31% short, 49% adequate, and 9% surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies rated 13% very short, 38% short, 43% adequate, and 6% surplus.

Corn planted was 3%, behind 22% last year and 13% for the five-year average.

Soybeans planted was 1%, behind 7% last year, and near 4% average.

Winter wheat condition rated 3% very poor, 21% poor, 51% fair, 24% good, and 1% excellent.

Spring wheat planted was 48%, well behind 78% last year, and near 51% average. Emerged was 12%, well behind 43% last year, and behind 22% average.

Oats planted was 48%, well behind 72% last year, and near 50% average. Emerged was 20%, behind 29% last year, and near 22% average.

Sorghum planted was 2%, near 1% average.

Pasture and range conditions rated 19% very poor, 39% poor, 37% fair, 5% good, and 0% excellent.
