97 Percent of S.D. Corn Rates Fair to Excellent



For the week ending Sunday, there were 4.3 days suitable for fieldwork, according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service. Topsoil moisture supplies rated 3% very short, 19% short, 61% adequate, and 17% surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies rated 4% very short, 24% short, 62% adequate, and 10% surplus.

Corn condition rated 0% very poor, 3% poor, 30% fair, 61% good, and 6% excellent. Corn planted was 93%, behind 99% last year, but near 89% for the five-year average. Emerged was 68%, well behind 91% last year, and behind 75% average.

Soybeans planted was 77%, behind 96% last year, and near 79% average. Emerged was 35%, well behind 83% last year and 56% average.

Winter wheat condition rated 3% very poor, 16% poor, 39% fair, 34% good, and 8% excellent. Winter wheat headed was 33%, well behind 60% last year, and behind 48% average.

Spring wheat condition rated 0% very poor, 12% poor, 27% fair, 60% good, and 1% excellent. Spring wheat emerged was 91%, behind 96% last year, and near 94% average. Headed was 1%, behind 15% last year and 9% average.

Oats condition rated 0% very poor, 10% poor, 43% fair, 45% good, and 2% excellent. Oats planted was 95%, behind 100% last year, and near 97% average. Emerged was 88%, behind 97% last year, and near 92% average. Headed was 4%, well behind 25% last year, and behind 13% average.

Sorghum condition rated 0% very poor, 1% poor, 43% fair, 55% good, and 1% excellent. Sorghum planted was 51%, well behind 78% last year, and behind 58% average.

Sunflowers planted was 35%, behind 51% last year, and near 39% average.

Pasture and range conditions rated 10% very poor, 27% poor, 40% fair, 20% good, and 3% excellent.
