Experts Gather at SD Water Conference 2025

By Scout Nelson

The Eastern South Dakota Water Conference will be held on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, at the McCrory Gardens Education and Visitor Center in Brookings, South Dakota.

This annual event brings together researchers, industry professionals, policymakers, and community members to explore important issues related to water quality and management.

The theme for this year’s conference is “Healthy Waters: Expectations vs. Reality in South Dakota’s Watersheds.” The discussions will focus on how communities, farms, and industries can better understand and respond to challenges facing rivers, lakes, and groundwater across the state.

Speakers from universities, non-profit organizations, government agencies, and the private sector will present the latest research and strategies for improving water management in the Northern Great Plains. These sessions provide valuable insight for water managers, farmers, and everyday water users who rely on strong, science-based planning.

Registration is required by October 8, 2025. The fee for professionals is $85, while students may attend for $25, with lunch included in their registration. This affordable option helps encourage student participation and supports the next generation of water resource leaders.

The conference location, McCrory Gardens in Brookings, provides a fitting backdrop for discussions on water and conservation. Participants will also have opportunities to connect with experts and other stakeholders to share experiences and learn practical solutions.

David Kringen, SDSU Extension Water Resources Field Specialist, serves as the primary contact for the event. More details, including registration information, are available on the official event page.

By gathering diverse voices in one place, the Eastern South Dakota Water Conference continues to serve as a vital forum for addressing water issues, building stronger watershed strategies, and supporting the health of South Dakota’s environment and communities.
