Ghana is becoming an increasingly attractive destination for U.S. agricultural products as economic conditions improve, and consumer demand expands. The country’s recovery has been supported by stronger governance, growing exports, and efforts to improve key industries.
Economic growth has accelerated, while inflation has fallen considerably. These changes are helping consumers regain spending power and encouraging greater demand for a wider range of food products. Rising disposable incomes are expected to further strengthen food purchasing in the coming years.
Urbanization remains a major driver of change in Ghana’s food market. With a large share of the population living in cities, demand is shifting beyond traditional foods toward convenience products, processed ingredients, fortified foods, and ready-to-eat options. Health-conscious consumers are also showing interest in higher-quality food choices.
U.S. agricultural exports to Ghana increased strongly in 2025, led by poultry products. Chicken remains a preferred protein source for many consumers, making poultry the most successful U.S. export category in the market. American food preparations and consumer-oriented products also continue to perform well.
Additional opportunities exist for U.S. beef, wine, and distilled spirits. Although regulatory requirements have limited beef exports, reforms and increased cooperation are helping improve market access. Hotels, restaurants, and premium retailers are showing growing interest in carrying U.S. meat products.
The country’s expanding retail sector is creating more channels for imported foods. Modern supermarkets are increasing their presence, offering consumers greater access to international brands and value-added products. At the same time, local food processors continue to rely on imported ingredients to meet rising demand.
