Over 60 Percent of S.D. Soil Moisture Very Short to Short



For the week ending Sunday, there were 3.7 days suitable for fieldwork, according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service. Topsoil moisture supplies rated 20% very short, 44% short, 33% adequate, and 3% surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies rated 20% very short, 46% short, 33% adequate, and 1% surplus.

Winter wheat condition rated 1% very poor, 19% poor, 58% fair, 21% good, and 1% excellent.

Spring wheat planted was 15%, behind 27% last year, but near 12% for the five-year average.

Oats planted was 16%, near 18% last year, but ahead of 9% average. Emerged was 1%, near 2% last year, and equal to average.
