S.D. Spring Wheat Harvest Nearing Completion



For the week ending Sunday, there were 6.7 days suitable for fieldwork, according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service. Topsoil moisture supplies rated 20% very short, 45% short, 33% adequate, and 2% surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies rated 20% very short, 42% short, 36% adequate, and 2% surplus.

Corn condition rated 9% very poor, 14% poor, 29% fair, 42% good, and 6% excellent. Corn dough was 92%, near 96% last year, and equal to the five-year average. Dented was 55%, behind 64% last year, and near 56% average. Mature was 11%, behind 17% last year, and equal to average.

Soybean condition rated 5% very poor, 13% poor, 31% fair, 48% good, and 3% excellent. Soybeans setting pods was 97%, near 99% last year and 96% average. Dropping leaves was 12%, well behind 35% last year, and behind 24% average.

Winter wheat planted was 2%, near 3% last year, and equal to average.

Spring wheat harvested was 97%, near 100% last year and 95% average.

Oats harvested was 95%, behind 100% last year, and near 98% average.

Sorghum condition rated 6% very poor, 22% poor, 40% fair, 32% good, and 0% excellent. Sorghum coloring was 73%, near 77% last year, but ahead of 60% average. Mature was 27%, ahead of 20% last year and 8% average.

Pasture and range conditions rated 27% very poor, 33% poor, 26% fair, 13% good, and 1% excellent.
