SDSPA Hosts Producer Training in March

SDSPA Hosts Producer Training in March

By Scout Nelson

The South Dakota Specialty Producers Association invited producers to attend March webinars focused on urban agriculture and small-scale production. These online trainings will support growers who are working to build strong and sustainable local food systems.

The Natural Resources Conservation Service and SDSPA work together to support producers across the state. Their partnership promotes conservation, wise management of natural resources, and farming practices that protect both producers and the environment. The goal is to strengthen sustainability while improving farm success.

Producers, NRCS employees, and other agricultural resource providers are encouraged to participate in these educational sessions. The webinar provides useful knowledge that growers can apply directly to their operations.

One featured session is titled Understanding Nutritional Density with Shaylee Hoff of Ecdysis Foundation. The webinar will take place on March 10, 2026, at 2 p.m. Central Time and 1 p.m. Mountain Time.

The session will explain what nutritional density means and why it matters. It addresses important questions such as whether nutrient levels differ between crops and species, whether fruits and vegetables can be tested for nutrient composition, and how farm management practices may impact crop nutrition.

Join Shaylee Hoff, Registered Dietician Nutritionist and Nutritional Ecologist at Ecdysis Foundation, to learn about the science behind nutrient rich food. Producers can also learn how to use this knowledge to improve crop quality and add value to their products. Register here.

This program has been funded under a Conservation Collaboration Cooperative Agreement between NRCS and SDSPA. This agreement supports sustainable agriculture practices and environmental stewardship. The program's content reflects the responsibility of the authors and does not represent official views of USDA or NRCS.

These March webinars provide producers with practical education, conservation guidance, and new tools to support small scale and urban agriculture in South Dakota.
