South Dakota Corn and Soybean Harvests Progressing



For the week ending Sundat, there were 6.2 days suitable for fieldwork, according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service. Topsoil moisture supplies rated 36% very short, 45% short, 19% adequate, and 0% surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies rated 29% very short, 47% short, 24% adequate, and 0% surplus.

Corn condition rated 13% very poor, 20% poor, 28% fair, 34% good, and 5% excellent. Corn mature was 87%, behind 93% last year, but ahead of 79% for the five-year average. Harvested was 28%, near 31% last year, but ahead of 18% average.

Soybean condition rated 10% very poor, 19% poor, 30% fair, 38% good, and 3% excellent. Soybeans dropping leaves was 97%, near 99% last year and 95% average. Harvested was 56%, behind 65% last year, but ahead of 41% average.

Winter wheat planted was 79%, behind 88% last year, and near 82% average. Emerged was 38%, near 40% last year, and behind 50% average.

Sorghum condition rated 3% very poor, 26% poor, 28% fair, 43% good, and 0% excellent. Sorghum mature was 93%, near 95% last year, but well ahead of 68% average. Harvested was 40%, behind 52% last year, but ahead of 27% average.

Sunflowers harvested was 7%, behind 21% last year, and near 10% average.

Pasture and range conditions rated 21% very poor, 29% poor, 32% fair, 16% good, and 2% excellent.
