SDSU Extension is pleased to announce the participants in the 2023-2024 AgritourismSD class.
Those selected to participate in Class 2 include Tina Brents-Barnhart, of Rapid City; Michelle Haukaas, of Mission; Paula and April Hamilton, of Hitchcock; Kelly Brandlee, of Pierpont; Michael Gubbels, of Canton; Crystal Ashley, of Pukwana; Frank and Laura Moser, of New Underwood; Nick Livermont, of Allen; Josh and Alicia Kropuenske, of Hot Springs; Dawn Nagel, of Gettysburg; and Chanda Knoof, of Blackhawk. The program lasts 18 months and will start in May.
AgritourismSD is a program for South Dakotans with direct ties to a farm or ranch and less than 10 years of agritourism experience. The first class started in May 2021 with a cohort of 16, who completed their final workshop in March 2023.
The class focuses on five areas of agritourism: tours, accommodations, education, events, and local foods. Participants learn through study trips, interactive workshops, case studies, web-based interaction, and networking. Case studies showcase the good, bad, and ugly of starting an agritourism business.
