The SDSU Extension and Child and Adult Nutrition Services-Department of Education announce an in-person Farm to School Buyer-Grower Summit. Scheduled for February 12, 2024, from 6:30-8:00 p.m., this significant event will take place at the SDSU Extension Sioux Falls Regional Center.
Aiming to bolster farm to school initiatives in South Dakota, the summit invites farmers, ranchers, school districts, and Summer Feeding Program operators. It's an opportunity to gain valuable information, start buyer-grower relationships, and access ongoing learning resources.
Experts from the Child and Adult Nutrition Services-DOE and SDSU Extension will be available for inquiries.
This summit is part of three regional gatherings, with others in Aberdeen and Rapid City. The Sioux Falls meeting specifically welcomes individuals from Eastern and Southeastern South Dakota. A virtual session on March 26 caters to those unable to attend in person.
The agenda is packed with interactive and informative sessions, including a welcome activity, a presentation on South Dakota's farm to school initiatives, producer and school nutrition breakouts, and a buyer-grower connection activity. The event concludes with a reflection and wrap-up session.
Registration is complimentary and open until noon on February 7. Note that meals are not provided. In case of bad weather, the alternate date is February 26.
