Family farmers and ranchers from across South Dakota gather in Huron for the 110th South Dakota Farmers Union State Convention, held on December 10 and 11. This long-standing event brings agriculture producers together to shape policy for the state’s largest agriculture organization.
It also provides a place for learning, discussion, and connection with state leaders, national representatives, and industry experts.
During the two-day convention, members take part in policy development sessions that guide the future direction of the organization. These policies help address current challenges facing family farms and rural communities, while also supporting long-term goals for South Dakota agriculture.
The convention offers producers an open space to share ideas, discuss concerns, and work toward a stronger future for the state’s agriculture sector.
Attendees also hear from South Dakota Governor Larry Rhoden, along with Farmers Union leaders from both the state and national levels. Additional speakers include livestock experts, market analysts, and industry thought leaders who share updates on key issues.
These sessions help farmers stay informed about market trends, production challenges, and opportunities to support their farms and ranches.
Members of the media are invited to attend the event, with free registration and meals provided. Media professionals can register by contacting Lura Roti.
Reporters may also request remote interviews with farmers, ranchers, and speakers before or during the event. This convenience helps news outlets capture important discussions and highlight the voices of agriculture families.
A complete press kit and agenda are available online. The press kit is updated throughout the convention and includes speaker audio, photos, news releases, and general event photos. Anyone needing additional materials is encouraged to reach out.
The annual convention remains an important gathering that highlights the strength of South Dakota’s farm community and the central role family farmers play in the state’s agricultural success.
