R-CALF USA Convention Highlights Globalization Concerns in Farming

Rapid City, South Dakota played host to the 24th Annual R-CALF USA National Convention themed “American Spirit” which concluded recently. This two-day event showcased a plethora of speakers and offered a trade show specifically tailored for producers, along with numerous networking chances.

A significant draw was the live streaming feature on CattleUSA.com, which allowed thousands to tune in. The gathering addressed key challenges currently being faced by the American cattle and sheep industries.

Member sessions at the convention covered a broad spectrum of topics including animal health, private property rights, checkoff programs, and marketing strategies. The convention also ushered in nominations for director replacements across various regions. The R-CALF USA community will be casting their ballots on these policies and nominations soon.

The event was graced by 15 presentations highlighting concerns about the U.S. cattle and sheep industries, touching upon themes like defending against industry consolidation, protecting private property rights, addressing price fluctuations from imports, and input costs. A notable concern discussed was the global approach to controlling the food supply and the autonomy of individual producers.

Eva Vlaardingerbroek, a Dutch advocate and political commentator, was the keynote speaker, and was accompanied by notable figures like U.S. Sen. Mike Rounds, U.S. Rep. Harriet Hageman, and USDA Farm Service Agency Administrator Zach Ducheneaux, among others.

R-CALF USA President, Brett Kenzy, spotlighted the issue of globalization and emphasized the organization's concerns about it. Rancher and advocate Coy Young also shared his story, emphasizing the value of American beef.

Attendees appreciated the enlightening information provided at the R-CALF USA 25th Anniversary National Convention in June 2024. The event recognized and awarded industry contributors. For more details, visit www.RCALFconvention.com.
