S.D. Corn and Soybeans Progress on Par with Averages



For the week ending Sunday, there were 6.1 days suitable for fieldwork, according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service. Topsoil moisture supplies rated 23% very short, 25% short, 48% adequate, and 4% surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies rated 19% very short, 28% short, 50% adequate, and 3% surplus.

Corn condition rated 5% very poor, 13% poor, 23% fair, 49% good, and 10% excellent. Corn silking was 89%, near 92% last year and 90% for the five-year average. Dough was 32%, behind 41% last year and 38% average. Dented was 1%, equal to last year, and near 2% average.

Soybean condition rated 2% very poor, 7% poor, 31% fair, 54% good, and 6% excellent. Soybeans blooming was 90%, near 91% last year and 89% average. Setting pods was 60%, near 64% last year and 63% average.

Winter wheat harvested was 92%, near 96% last year, but ahead of 86% average.

Spring wheat condition rated 6% very poor, 17% poor, 30% fair, 45% good, and 2% excellent. Spring wheat harvested was 54%, behind 69% last year, but near 52% average.

Oats harvested was 67%, behind 80% last year, but near 65% average.

Sorghum condition rated 2% very poor, 11% poor, 31% fair, 56% good, and 0% excellent. Sorghum headed was 63%, behind 74% last year, but near 59% average. Coloring was 3%, equal to last year, and near 5% average.

Pasture and range conditions rated 17% very poor, 24% poor, 32% fair, 24% good, and 3% excellent.
