South Dakota State University (SDSU) Extension is organizing a unique educational opportunity for youth interested in agriculture and livestock management. The event, called the 4-H Youth Livestock Literacy tour, will be held on May 27, 2025, from 1:30 to 3:00 p.m. CDT at the facilities of 605 Sires and Donors, located at 27666 443rd Avenue in Marion, South Dakota.

The primary goal of this event is to provide youth aged 8 to 18 with hands-on experiences related to modern livestock practices, specifically in the beef industry. Participants will receive an exclusive guided tour through state-of-the-art facilities where they will witness how conventional semen management practices are performed.

The tour will be educational and engaging, allowing youth to understand practical industry methods and gain valuable insight into livestock reproduction and genetic management. This exposure aims to enhance agricultural literacy and spark interest in livestock science among young participants.

The 4-H Youth Livestock Literacy program is committed to educating future agricultural leaders through interactive, practical experiences. These types of events help youth gain a deeper understanding of the agricultural industry, promoting curiosity and career exploration in livestock science and animal husbandry.

Registration is required to attend the event. Interested youth and their families are encouraged to sign up soon, as spots may be limited. For further details and registration information, contact Deanna Gall, the SDSU Extension 4-H Educator serving Hutchinson and Turner Counties.

This livestock literacy event reflects SDSU Extension’s ongoing mission to support and encourage youth involvement in agriculture. By providing firsthand experiences and fostering interactions with industry professionals, the program helps young people appreciate the complexities and advancements of modern farming practices.

Overall, the event promises an enriching and memorable experience, equipping youth with valuable knowledge and skills beneficial for future educational and career opportunities within agriculture.
