SDSU Extension is hosting Southeast Research Farm Seminars during the Dakota Farm Show on January 6 and January 7, 2026. The event takes place at the USD Dakota Dome in Vermillion, South Dakota. These seminars give farmers, students, and agriculture workers the chance to learn about current farm topics from university specialists.
The Dakota Farm Show is a large agricultural trade event that includes product booths, equipment displays, and education programs. SDSU Extension offers free seminars in the Club Room, starting at 10:00 a.m. on January 6 and 9:45 a.m. on January 7. Each day ends at noon and includes short breaks for discussion.
The January 6 sessions focus on crop pests, plant diseases, compost use, and livestock trends. Topics include corn and soybean insect pests, managing corn diseases, soybean cyst nematodes, compost basics, and future beef carcass weights. Speakers from SDSU Extension and research programs share practical information that helps producers make better farm decisions.
The January 7 sessions focus on soil health, forage trials, cover crops, and crop production practices. Topics include forage variety trials, nitrogen use in soil, soil health improvement, micronutrients in corn and soybean crops, and proper seed rates. One session also includes a student-led discussion on livestock housing rules and farm policy topics.
These sessions help farmers understand new research, learn about soil and crop care, and improve farm planning. Producers can ask questions, share ideas, and learn about better ways to manage crops and livestock.
The seminars support farm success by providing clear, science-based information in a friendly learning setting. SDSU Extension continues to offer strong education programs that help build a stronger farming community across South Dakota.
