The South Dakota State Fair announces that it will host the National Rambouillet Sheep Show and Sale from June 16–20, 2026, at the SHED on the State Fairgrounds. This major national event brings together Rambouillet breeders, youth exhibitors, and livestock producers from across the country.
The show includes both the National Show and Sale as well as the National Junior Show, giving young sheep exhibitors an important platform to learn, compete, and build connections in the industry.
The event is organized each year by the American Rambouillet Sheep Breeders Association. Leaders from the Association share their excitement about returning to the South Dakota State Fairgrounds, noting the strong support they receive from fair staff, the Huron Chamber & Visitors Bureau, local businesses, and the surrounding community. They also highlight the quality of the SHED, a new and modern facility well suited for large livestock gatherings.
The SHED is a 40,000-square-foot building that serves as the permanent home for Open Class Sheep during the fair. It also operates year-round as a flexible space for livestock events.
With room for up to 1,000 sheep and a 1,320-square-foot education center, the SHED offers a comfortable and practical location for both exhibitors and visitors. South Dakota ranks sixth in the nation for sheep and wool production, making the facility a valuable resource for local and national breeders.
Rambouillet sheep have played an important role in the U.S. sheep industry for many years. Known for their ability to produce both quality wool and meat in a wide range of climates, they help producers improve efficiency and control costs. Their adaptability, strong genetics, and profit-building traits make them a popular choice for breeders across the country.
The National Rambouillet Show and Sale has been held in different states each year since the late 1970s. Hosting the event in South Dakota gives regional producers a chance to access high-quality genetics and connect with other breeders.
